Quick Reports

Use the Quick Reports to see the Stockscores indicators and charts on most stocks trading in North America. Charts can be viewed in small or large format, and the parent industry sector chart is available for most stocks. Links to many other Stockscores tools are available right from the Quick Report, making it one of the most used tools on Stockscores.

The Quick Report contains a wide variety of information, highlighted in the graphic below:
  1. Stock Chart - the detailed view of the Quick Report shows a small price chart.
  2. Quick Time Period Navigation - Change the look back period of the chart quickly with the links above the small chart.
  3. Indicator Box - The Stockscores Indicators and Indicator Tabs are shown to the right of the chart.
  4. Signal Stockscore - the current Signal Stockcore for the stock.
  5. Sentiment Stockscore - the current Sentiment Stockscore for the stock.
  6. Indicator Tabs - Trading Data, Indicators and Parent Sector information for the stock
  7. Tool Links - quick links to the stock's Option Chains (if Options trade for the stock), Stockhouse Bullboard, Watchlist Tool, Portfolio Tool and Stock Alert Tool.
  8. Chart Tools - provides the ability to change from the Quick Report to the Full Report (for Advanced or higher members), Large Chart View or to a format of the chart suitable for printing.
  9. Chart Parameters - allows you to change the parameters of the chart view.

To Access a Quick Report

Enter the stock's symbol in the Enter Symbol box found at the top right of the Stockscores page. This will bring up the Quick Report view that you last used. If you last used the large chart view, and want to switch to the smaller, detailed view, simply click on small chart below the stock's price chart. The reverse can be done to move from the small chart to large chart view.

Figure 1 - the Quick Report provides charts, indicators and links to other Stockscores tools for most North American stocks.

Changing Chart Settings

There are two ways to change the settings of the chart. The Quick Links at the top of the price chart allow a fast change to the chart, using some of the more common look back periods. This is useful if you want to take a quick look at another time interval for a particular stock. However, using this tool does not permanently change the chart settings.

Using the Chart Parameters tool at the bottom of the chart offers more flexibility in changing the settings, and the settings are saved for future use. Therefore, if you set the chart to show the Stockscores for a 6 month, candlestick chart, all subsequent charts that you pull up will have the same setting.

There are a number of chart parameters that can be changed:

Enter Symbols: to change just the chart, enter a new symbol in this box. To compare multiple stocks on one chart, separate symbols with commas.
Percentage Chart: displays the stock chart in terms of percentage gain or lost for the time period of the chart.
Time Period: select the saved look back period of the stock chart.
Moving Averages: display one or two moving averages of your choice. The chart period must be at least as long as the moving average for the moving average to display correctly. For example, you can not display a 200 day moving average unless you have at least 200 trading showing on the chart.
Graph Mode: select from a line, candle, shaded area or hi/low (bar) chart.
Chart Options: display volume or show recent stock splits of the stock you are considering. Stock splits are displayed as an S on the price chart.
Candle Colors: show red/green, yellow blue or monochrome candles, differentiating whether the stock closed above or below its open for the time period displayed.
Technical Charts: display any or all of these technical analysis indicators below the price and volume chart by checking of the appropriate boxes.

Changing Chart Format

If you are in the small chart view, you can change to the large charts, which do not display the Indicator Tabs, by clicking on the Switch to Large Charts link found below the stock chart. If you are viewing the large charts, you can go to the small charts by clicking the Switch to Small Charts link at the bottom of the chart.

Printing Charts

If you want to print only the stock chart, click on the Print Chart below the chart and the chart image will appear in a new window for printing.

View the Full Report

Advanced members of Stockscores can view the values calculated by Stockscores on many indicators by clicking on the View Full Report link at the bottom of the stock chart.

Figure 2 - the small view of the chart allows you to change the chart parameters of the stock you are considering.

Figure 3 - the large view of the chart allows you to see more detail in the stock chart, but not view all of the indicators shown in the Quick Report.

Quick Report Trading Data Tab

The Trading Data tab on the Quick Report shows some basic price information, delayed 20 minutes from actual trading. Last price, change (in dollar and percent terms), the previous closing price, volume traded, the open price, and the daily and yearly high and lows are shown in the table. At the bottom of the table are links to the Options Chains (for stocks that trade options), Stockhouse Bullboards, Watchlist tool, Portfolio tool and Stock Alert tool. For more information on these tools, go to that area of the User Guide.

Quick Report Indicators Tab

The Quick Report Indicators Tab shows some indicators important to those trading the Stockscores Approach. Abnormal Activity, Abnormal Volume, Gap, Candles, Projected Volume, Volatility Today, Volatility Yesterday, #of trades and projected number of trades and the date of the last new release are all displayed in this table. For definitions of these indicators, check the Market Scan area of the User Guide.

Quick Report Parent Sector Tab

The Stockscores Approach to trading stock encourages analysis of the stock's chart as well as the chart of the stock's parent sector. The Parent Sector tab shows the Sentiment Stockscore and chart of the sector that the stock is part of. This feature is available for larger companies, but may not be known for smaller, less liquid stocks.

  • If you want to compare a stock with another stock or an index, use the Enter Symbols box in the Chart Parameters box below the chart to enter multiple symbols, each separated by a comma. For example, to see how Microsoft (MSFT) is doing relative to the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ), enter MSFT,QQQ in this box.

  • If you want to change the default chart setting for the Gallery View, use the Quick Report chart. Any changes you make in the Chart Parameters area of the Quick Report will be saved as your default chart setting for charts you use elsewhere on Stockscores.

  • Colorblind users should switch the color of the candlesticks to yellow/blue or monochrome, since colorblindness typically has problems differentiating red from green.

  • When position trading, the six month time frame is usually the best to look at when inspecting charts. If this time frame looks good, check the one year to see if there is any longer term support and resistance to be concerned about.
